spiritual requirements

I've been enjoying the study of the full Joseph Smith History, which is available online at the following link:

in part thirteen of the history, Oliver receives his own second comforter experience as he hears the voice of Jesus, "Look unto me in every thought; doubt not, fear not.  Behold the wounds which pierced my side, and also the prints of the nails in my hands and feet."

in the same revelation, Oliver is instructed to "ask" that he may know the mysteries of God.

In part fourteen, Joseph Knight and Hyrum Smith receive kind instruction directly from Jesus Christ, concerning how seekers of Zion should behave:

..Behold, I speak unto you and also to all those who have desires to bring forth and establish this work, and no one can assist in this work except he shall be humble, full of love, having faith, hope and charity, being temperate in all things whatsoever shall be entrusted to his care.

..And now verily, verily I say unto you, put your trust in that spirit which leads to do good, yea, to do justly, to walk humbly, to judge righteously; and this is my spirit.  Verily, verily I say unto you, I will impart unto you of my spirit which shall enlighten your mind, which shall fill your soul with joy, and then shall you know, or by this shall you know, all things whatsoever you desire of me which is pertaining unto things of righteousness, in faith, believing in me that you shall receive.

Let us be like Christ

I recently encountered an internet troll.  A more accurate description would be "someone acting like Saul before his conversion".

Prior to his vision of Jesus and spiritual conversion, Saul was found persecuting the humble believers of Christ.  Once converted, Paul became an awesome force for Jesus.  Do not be like Saul, (controlling, devilish, mean spirited).  Instead, be like the Master whom we hope to serve, be like Jesus Christ (patient, kind and humble).

And it came to pass that as I made my journey, and had come near unto Damascus about noon, suddenly there shone from Heaven a great light round about me. And I fell unto the ground and heard a voice saying unto me, Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? And I answered, Who are you, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you persecute. And they that were with me saw indeed the light and were afraid, but they heard not the voice of him that spoke to me. And I said, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord said unto me, Arise and go into Damascus, and there it shall be told you of all things which are appointed for you to do. And when I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of them that were with me, I came into Damascus.

And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good report of all the Jews who dwelled there, came unto me, and stood and said unto me, Brother Saul, receive your sight. And the same hour, I looked up upon him. And he said, The God of our fathers has chosen you, that you should know his will and see that Just One, and should hear the voice of his mouth; for you shall be his witness unto all men of what you have seen and heard. And now why do you delay? Arise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

And it came to pass that when I had come again to Jerusalem, even while I prayed in the temple, I was in a trance and saw him, saying unto me, Make haste and get yourself quickly out of Jerusalem, for they will not receive your testimony concerning me. And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue those that believed on you. And when the blood of your martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by and consenting unto his death, and kept the raiment of them that slew him. And he said unto me, Depart, for I will send you far from here unto the gentiles.
